Global Director, Future Resilient Design Architecture & Landscape, Ramboll
Signe Kongebro is a Danish architect and global sustainability leader known for advancing in resilient urban design. She is currently Global Director, Future Resilient Design at Ramboll, where she works across disciplines—including architecture, landscape, water, nature, infrastructure, and mobility—to strengthen integrated, knowledge-driven approaches for key clients and strategic projects. Her move to Ramboll followed many years as partner and Global Design Director at the international architecture studio Henning Larsen.
In 2007, Kongebro founded Henning Larsen’s sustainability department and became one of the driving forces behind the studio’s long-standing focus on sustainable construction. Throughout her career, she has pioneered methods to reduce carbon emissions at both building and urban scale, embedding environmental performance into design from the earliest conceptual stages.
She has led the design and strategic development of a wide range of ambitious projects. These include Fælledby, an all-timber neighbourhood in Copenhagen designed to lower carbon impact while increasing biodiversity in balance with surrounding nature; the Downsview Framework Plan in Toronto, one of Canada’s largest transformational urban development projects; and Volvo Campus Lundby in Gothenburg, Sweden, where an industrial campus has been reconfigured into a vibrant public district.
She is co-author of “The Copenhagen Way” – a strategic urban development publication by Ramboll in collaboration with BLOXHUB and Urban Partners. In short, it explains how Copenhagen transformed itself from nearly bankrupt into one of the world’s most sustainable and livable cities within a generation and distils the key principles behind that success – so other cities can apply similar approaches to become more resilient and competitive.
At the forefront of linking innovation and research to practical design decisions, Kongebro is a frequent international speaker and contributor to the global discourse on cities and resilience. She also serves on several boards and advisory boards, reinforcing her influence across both professional practice and academia.
Overall, Signe Kongebro is widely recognised as a leading voice in sustainable and future-resilient design, combining architectural expertise, systems thinking, and cross-disciplinary collaboration to shape the next generation of cities.
